Paddy Harrington Scholarship
IRELAND’s most promising young golfers lost their first challenge match 9 –3 against top young Portuguese Golf Federation golfers of a similar age during a tournament at The Oceânico Victoria course on January 28th.
However the students from the National University of Ireland’s Paddy Harrington Golf Scholarship–which is backed by a 5–year Oceânico Group sponsorship–still feel they came out winners after a week’s warm–weather training in the Algarve.
The week’s break at Oceânico’s Estrela da Luz resort for five ladies and eight men was part of their sponsorship package. It comprised four days golf at Oceânico’s Vilamoura courses Victoria, Laguna and Pinhal plus two days coaching, or massage therapy at the EDL spa.
Maynooth National University of Ireland Sports Officer Paul Davis said after the tournament:
"The students all said that if they could play more regularly on these fantastic Oceânico courses they’d be better golfers."
"Coming out here for a week is possibly the equivalent of a month’s coaching and playing in what’s been a really tough winter back home."
"Oceânico’s financial sponsorship is really helping us educating and forming better young Irish golfers. But the added component of warm weather training in such surroundings within the sponsorship is of huge extra value."
