Oceanico World Kids Golf Championship unveils 2011 Winners
08/08/2011 - Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship welcomes diverse field for innovative event
Oceanico is delighted to announce the 2011 winners of the Oceanico World Kids Golf Championship, after an enjoyable and competitive week on both the Oceanico Faldo Course and Oceanico O´Connor Jnr. course in Portugal’s idyllic Algarve region. Home favourite and +3 handicap, Gonçalo Pinto, who represented Portugal on the Oceanico Victoria course in the European Men’s Team Championships last month, retained his title from last year after an impressive 216 gross total over the three days play. Thailand’s Nattiya Somboonsup took home the girls title, after rounds of 76, 68 and 72. Over 100 players, representing 11 different nations teed it up throughout the week while competing in a range from age group categories from Under 9 to Under 18, highlighting Oceânico’s unrivalled commitment to golf on all levels.
“This event continues to be a great success, which is testament to the work we have done with The Portuguese Golf Federation. Investment in the development of grass roots golf continues to remain of high-importance to us at Oceânico and we will continue to offer young players the chance to compete over a championship course as part of that development. The tournament offered world ranking points for the first time this year, which brought in arguably our strongest-ever field. Our congratulations go out to all the competitors who all displayed great spirit throughout the week, especially our winners Gonçalo and Nattiya. We’re looking forward to watching this tournament grow in years to come,” commented Chris Stilwell CEO of Oceânico Golf.
Although just the third edition of the event, the Oceanico World Kids Golf Championship has expanded at rapid pace, with families taking advantage of the excellent on-site facilities and accommodation at the stunning Amendoeira Golf Resort.. The tournament is just one part of Oceânico’s roster of first class events, with the highlight being the European Tour’s Portugal Masters in October this year. With further events such as the Oceânico Ladies Week also planned, Oceânico’s position as one of Europe’s leading golf companies remains at the heart of the Algarve-based company’s ethos.
