Oceânico Group is delighted to announce that property ambassador Lee Westwood claimed the title of ‘best golfer in Europe’ by winning the Dubai World Championships.

Oceânico Group is delighted to announce that property ambassador Lee Westwood claimed the title of ‘best golfer in Europe’ by winning the Dubai World Championships at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

Westwood proved untouchable over the weekend and closed with a flawless 64 to cap off a remarkable week and season. The victory saw Westwood pip his close friend and Rory McIlroy to the Race to Dubai title and the tag ‘the best in Europe’. Going into the weekend Westwood had to finish ahead of McIlroy to claim the title and world golf’s richest prize fund. A brave effort from the young Irishman saw him finish third, but was unable to keep pace with the red hot Englishman.

“I’m delighted to be stood here and it’s got to be the best day of my golfing career. I think that's about as good as I've ever played under this pressure,” commented Westwood. “Hopefully there will be more, maybe a Major in the future. Some of the young players coming through, like Rory McIlroy, put me under a lot of pressure so it will be tough. I’m going to enjoy the rest of 2009.”

Oceânico has had success with some of Europe’s finest ever since it took control of seven courses in the Algarve, aligning itself with the likes of 3-time major champion Padraig Harrington and Lee Westwood.

‘We have had a successful few years with golfers we have aligned ourselves with. Padraig has had an amazing run, but Lee has been knocking on the door for a while now and this win caps off a remarkable year. This is a great result for Lee and we wish him all the very best. He has made us all very proud,” commented Simon Burgess, Director Oceânico Group.<

Oceânico Group took the front of Lee Westwood’s visor at the start of 2009 and proved to be an inspired choice. With Westwood’s win at the Oceânico hosted Portugal Masters and this week’s success, the team at Oceânico clearly have an eye for identifying those destined for success.

With seven courses in the Algarve and further developments at Little River in the USA, Oceânico Group’s commitment to golf is unrivalled.
